NSCDC rescues 15 children trafficked and sold in Nasarawa
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rescued 15 minors who were allegedly trafficked and sold for N2 million each in Nasarawa State. Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, revealed that the suspect deceived parents by posing as an official of a child rights group. The rescue operation was led by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, headed by Commander Dandaura Appollos. Three suspected buyers have been arrested, and the NSCDC has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting human trafficking.
What happened
- Babawale Afolabi stated that the suspect posed as an official of the National Council of Child Rights Advocate and promised free education to lure parents.
- The suspect operated under an NGO and orphanage programme called the Back to School Project.
- The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad rescued 15 out of 16 trafficked children from Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities in Kokona Local Government Area.
- Three victims were rescued in Anambra, Imo, and Enugu states, while 12 others were rescued across eastern transit routes.
- Three suspected buyers, including one man and two women, have been arrested, and the NSCDC plans to prosecute those found culpable after investigations.
