Five people killed in Enugu-Onitsha Expressway crash
A multiple-vehicle crash at the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has resulted in the deaths of five people. Theophilus Okoduwa, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State, confirmed the incident. The crash involved a trailer, a commercial bus, and a car, with several others sustaining injuries. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist victims and clear the wreckage.
What happened
- Theophilus Okoduwa stated that the crash involved a Dongfeng trailer, a Mitsubishi L300 commercial bus, and a Honda car.
- The accident happened near the LNG plant in Ugwu-Onyeama and involved 25 people, including 13 males and 12 females.
- Eighteen people were injured, while four males and one female died from the crash.
- The injured were taken to Tex Hospital, 9th Mile Corner, and the deceased were deposited at Ekochin Morgue, 9th Mile.
- Preliminary investigation suggests wrongful overtaking and speeding may have caused the accident.
