
Police arrest 10 suspects over Lagos Coastal Road vandalism

What happened
- Fatai Tijani said the suspects were arrested on August 17, 2026, following investigations into the vandalism.
- The suspects, aged between 18 and 32, were found with vandalised iron materials linked to the Coastal Road.
- Olufemi Dare, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, stated that 1,800 manhole covers were stolen from the highway between January and August 2026.
- Vandals also removed about 1,000 metres of clear-view fencing and around 75 directional signs from the road.
- In a related incident, Chidiebere Ochiri was arrested for allegedly stealing CCTV camera cables and iron on the Third Mainland Bridge.
