
Police re-arrest suspects who escaped from Delta facility
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have re-arrested eight out of 11 suspects who escaped from custody in Ughelli. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, the arrests were made through intelligence-led efforts and the case is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba. Other police operations across the country also led to arrests and the rescue of abducted victims. Several cases remain under investigation in different states.
What happened
- Ani Iniedu stated that eight of 11 escaped suspects were re-arrested after fleeing a police facility in Ughelli.
- On Sunday, August 16, 2026, a suspect was arrested for illegal disposal of oil-contaminated sludge along the Ughelli/Iyede Expressway, with a truck recovered at the scene.
- In Anambra State, on Monday, August 17, 2026, a 49-year-old male suspect was arrested at Obosi, with a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges recovered.
- Also on Monday, August 17, 2026, police in Kogi State secured the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho, Dekina LGA, who were reunited with their families.
- Additional police operational successes were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Benue, Niger, Bayelsa, and Ogun states.
