NDLEA arrests suspects and seizes drugs in major operations
A businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to smuggle cocaine. The NDLEA also carried out multiple raids across several states, recovering large quantities of drugs and arresting various suspects. The agency highlighted the scale of its operations, including the destruction of cannabis farms and the seizure of vehicles and cash. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) praised the efforts of NDLEA officers involved in these operations.
What happened
- Nwankwo Onyebuchi was caught with 1.550kg of cocaine hidden in his luggage at Lagos airport and confessed to selling his assets to buy the drugs.
- NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse at 20 Hakeem Dosumu Street, Okota, Lagos, recovering 3,776 cartons of codeine-based syrup between Friday, 7th, and Saturday, 8th August 2026.
- On Wednesday, 14th August, a raid at 37 Ogundare Street, Ipaja, Lagos, led to the seizure of 324kg of Colorado cannabis and two cars from Shoremi Kayode.
- Arrests and drug seizures were also made in Kwara, Oyo, Delta, Plateau, Kano, and Edo states, with significant quantities of drugs and cash recovered on August 10, August 12, August 13, and August 14.
- The NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse advocacy, conducting sensitisation lectures in schools and commending officers for their efforts.
