NDLEA seizes drugs and arrests suspects in major Lagos operations
A series of operations by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of large quantities of drugs across multiple states. Nwankwo Onyebuchi was apprehended at the Lagos airport with cocaine hidden in his luggage. The agency also uncovered a massive stockpile of codeine-based syrup and raided several locations, recovering various narcotics and arresting multiple individuals. The NDLEA's efforts were praised by its chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), for balancing drug supply and demand reduction.
What happened
- Nwankwo Onyebuchi, a 48-year-old businessman, was arrested at the Lagos airport with 1.550kg of cocaine concealed in his luggage.
- NDLEA operatives recovered 3,776 cartons of codeine-based syrup valued at over N2.6 billion between Friday 7th and Saturday 8th August 2026 in Okota, Lagos.
- On Wednesday 14th August, a raid in Ipaja, Lagos, led to the recovery of 324kg of Colorado cannabis and the arrest of Shoremi Kayode.
- Multiple arrests and drug seizures were made in Kwara, Oyo, Delta, Plateau, Kano, and Edo states, with significant quantities of narcotics and cash recovered on August 10, August 12, August 13, and August 14.
- The NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse advocacy activities, conducting sensitisation lectures in schools and commending its officers for their efforts.
