Police arrest 147 suspects and seize weapons in Niger State raids
Niger State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects in a series of operations targeting criminal hideouts and alleged thuggery. The raids took place in areas including Suleja, Minna, and Maitumbi, resulting in the recovery of weapons and suspected cannabis. Adam Elleman and CSP Hassan Gimba led the operations, which involved local divisions and vigilantes. Several suspects have already been arraigned in court, while investigations continue.
What happened
- 139 suspects were arrested in Suleja and neighbouring areas after an “unlawful assembly and violent rally.”
- The police, led by CSP Hassan Gimba, conducted sting operations at blackspots in Madalla, Kwata, Bakin-Ruwa, Dikko, Kaduna Road, Sabon-Wuse, Gwazunu, and Chaza.
- 64 suspects were found with weapons, suspected cannabis, and other items, and have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Suleja.
- Eight more suspects were arrested in Minna and four in Maitumbi, with items like cutlasses, clubs, daggers, and illicit substances recovered.
- The police stated that investigations are ongoing and more suspects may be charged to court soon.
