Civil service promotions no longer tied to professional membership
The National Council on Establishments has decided that professional membership and certification will not automatically be required for appointments or promotions in Nigeria’s public service. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Didi Walson-Jack and attended by heads of service from across the country. The council clarified that such memberships are mainly for professional development and ethical standards, not as blanket requirements for career advancement. However, exceptions remain where specific schemes of service require such certifications.
