Police rescue 10-year-old boy and arrest two suspects in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has rescued a 10-year-old boy and arrested two suspected kidnappers in separate operations. According to a statement by DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, one suspect, Abdullahi Buba (alias “Osho”), was apprehended during a raid in Tudun Doki Village. The rescued boy, Muhammad Sufiyanu, was found alive after being reported missing by his uncle, Sani Ibrahim. The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Shaffa, praised the officers for their efforts and urged the public to support security agencies with credible information.
What happened
- The police arrested Abdullahi Buba during an intelligence-led raid in Tudun Doki Village, Gwadabawa Local Government Area at about 2 p.m. on August 8.
- Buba allegedly confessed to being part of a notorious kidnapping syndicate and admitted to multiple kidnappings and illegal levies on communities.
- In a separate operation, police rescued 10-year-old Muhammad Sufiyanu in Tangaza Local Government Area after he was reported missing at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Detectives intercepted two suspects on a motorcycle at about 11 p.m.; the suspects abandoned a sack containing the kidnapped boy, who was found alive and responsive.
- The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Shaffa, commended the officers and called on residents to provide timely and credible information to help combat kidnapping in the state.
