West Africa urged to set its own fuel price benchmark
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has called for a fuel price benchmark tailored to West Africa’s unique market conditions. Rabiu Umar, the Authority Chief Executive, argued that external crises in Western Europe and the Mediterranean should not dictate fuel prices in Nigeria and neighboring countries. Speaking at a major industry conference in Abuja, he emphasized the need for a transparent regional pricing system. Other industry leaders, including Vera Blei of S&P Global Energy, also highlighted the importance of local ownership in developing a credible benchmark.
