Government plans to boost hospital electricity with new initiative
The Federal Government has approved a new framework to improve electricity supply in health facilities across Nigeria. Dr Iziaq Salako and other officials announced that at least 30 per cent of hospitals are targeted for 24-hour power by the end of 2027. The initiative, coordinated by the Federal Ministries of Health and Power, will use public-private partnerships and various energy technologies. The move aims to reduce hospitals’ reliance on generators and improve patient care.

- The Rural Electrification Agency has already installed containerised solar power systems in about 100 hospitals nationwide.
- The initiative will be institutionalised with dedicated budgetary provisions and a full-time Project Coordination Unit to oversee implementation.
