Police arrest two over fake drug warehouses in Lagos
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have discovered two warehouses allegedly used for repackaging counterfeit pharmaceutical products. Two suspects, Eze Okwudilichukwu and Chukwudi Mba, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation. According to Fatai Tijani, the Commissioner of Police, the operation uncovered a large quantity of suspected adulterated drugs intended for distribution across Nigeria and beyond. The case has been handed over to the relevant regulatory agency for further investigation.
What happened
- Eze Okwudilichukwu and Chukwudi Mba were arrested at a warehouse in Otto, Lagos, where they were allegedly repackaging suspected adulterated drugs.
- A second warehouse was discovered, and a truck loaded with large quantities of suspected fake pharmaceutical products was recovered.
- Items seized included about 300 cartons of suspected adulterated Omeprazole, six bags of unpackaged drugs, and over 300 empty printed packs and cartons.
- Preliminary investigations suggest the syndicate had been distributing fake drugs across Nigeria and to Lomé, Togo.
- Attempts were made to compromise the investigation, but police stated these were resisted, and the case has been handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
