What happened
- The vessel, MT FILIA (IMO No. 8662684), sailing under the São Tomé and Príncipe flag, was arrested on July 23, 2026 within the offshore oil terminal in Akwa Ibom State.
- The Nigerian Navy intercepted the tanker after it departed the terminal and attempted to discharge stolen crude oil into the sea, causing maritime pollution.
- Preliminary investigations revealed the tanker had loaded about 650 metric tonnes of crude oil, valued at over N660 million.
