
Police arrest three suspected cable vandals in Yobe
Three suspected vandals have been arrested by the Yobe State Police Command for allegedly stealing power cables and transformer components. According to Police Public Relations Officer Dungus Abdulkarim, the operation led to the recovery of stolen items and vehicles used in the crime. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to protect public infrastructure. The police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on vandalism in the state.
What happened
- Abubakar Idris, a 27-year-old aluminium pot maker from Sabon Gari, Bade Local Government Area, was arrested on July 23, 2026, at about 1 p.m. with suspected stolen power cables.
- Two large bundles of power cables were recovered from Abubakar Idris during the operation.
- Further investigation led to the arrest of Samaila Suleiman (25) and Ibrahim Ado (26).
- Police recovered a tricycle with registration number 497 DPH and an unregistered Boxer motorcycle allegedly used to transport the stolen items.
- Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling vandalism and urged the public to provide credible information to support ongoing investigations.
