Police arrest four after man forced to bury murdered son
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects following the murder of Nsikak Joshua. The victim’s father, Mr Ekere, reported that his son was beaten to death and that the suspects forced him to bury the body in his own compound. The police exhumed the remains and have begun investigations. CP Baba Azare condemned the killing and assured the public of justice.
What happened
- Mr Ekere reported his son’s murder to the police on July 14, 2026, alleging that Otobong Nelson (aka “Efok Ikid”), Inemesit Robert, Utibe Clement, and Victor Robert were responsible.
- The suspects allegedly brought the corpse to the father’s residence on July 14, 2026, forced him to show a burial spot, and threatened him against contacting authorities.
- Police arrested Otobong Nelson and Utibe Clement on July 17, 2026; Nelson confessed to ordering the assault that led to the death.
- The suspects initially claimed the victim died in a hit-and-run and advised the father not to take the body to the mortuary.
- The police exhumed the body for autopsy, and the Commissioner of Police promised a thorough investigation and prosecution.
