NSCDC uncovers fake university and rescues over 100 students in Lagos
A fake university operating in the Imeke area of Lagos State has been exposed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The illegal institution allegedly admitted students into unaccredited programmes and forced them to join a Ponzi scheme. Oluwaseun Abolurin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Command, confirmed the arrest of several suspects and the rescue of 107 students. The operation also uncovered related crimes, including human trafficking and vandalism.
What happened
- On Monday, July 20, 2026, NSCDC operatives raided a fake university in Imeke village, Olorunda LCDA, arresting six suspects aged 24 to 31 and rescuing 107 students.
- The suspects allegedly lured students into a Ponzi scheme after admitting them into unaccredited courses, including Nursing.
- Adedotun Keshinro, Lagos State Commandant of NSCDC, ordered that the suspects and evidence be handed to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for further investigation.
- Additional operations led to the arrest of 12 suspects linked to illegal migration, human trafficking, Ponzi schemes, and vandalism, including foreign nationals.
- On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, seven suspects aged 12 to 16 were arrested and prosecuted for vandalising public school facilities in Ibereko, Badagry; other arrests took place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, and Saturday, July 18, 2026, for related crimes.
