
Four arrested as police foil kidnap plots in Anambra
Four suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command in connection with separate kidnapping and armed robbery incidents. According to spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were made during ongoing operations targeting violent crimes across the state. The police recovered weapons, a stolen vehicle, and other incriminating items. The suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement, and investigations are ongoing.
What happened
- On the afternoon of July 15, 2026, police arrested Okoye Ibegbunam Chukwuebuka John Bosco (alias 'Bone') in connection with a kidnapping in Okpanam, Asaba, Delta State.
- The suspect was found with a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition, an axe, and a phone bearing the victim’s photograph.
- On the evening of July 16, 2026, three more suspects (Chekwube Chukwu, Amarachukwu Nwobosi, and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor) were arrested in Ogbaru after a foiled kidnap attempt.
- The suspects were linked to an earlier kidnapping of a female POS operator at Dominion Park, Head Bridge, Onitsha, on June 3, 2026, where a ransom of ₦3.5 million was paid.
- The police urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to help combat crime in the state.
