Meter power surge blamed for Lagos building fire
A fire broke out in a three-storey residential building at Ketu-Ikosi, Lagos, after an electrical surge from a prepaid meter. The incident left two firefighters hospitalised after they collapsed during the rescue operation. Olawale Afolabi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said the quick response prevented the fire from spreading to nearby properties. What happened
- Olawale Afolabi stated the fire started at about 6:31 am in one of a pair of twin three-storey buildings at No. 11, Ademola Taiwo Street.
- The fire was caused by an electrical surge from a prepaid meter located at the front section of the building’s balcony.
- Two Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service personnel collapsed while combating the blaze and were promptly evacuated for treatment.
