NDLEA seizes millions of tramadol pills in major cross-border bust
In a series of coordinated operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted large quantities of tramadol and other illicit drugs. The agency targeted a transnational syndicate smuggling drugs along the Togo-Benin-Nigeria corridor. Several suspects, including drivers, cargo agents, and a businesswoman, were arrested. The NDLEA also commended its officers for their ongoing efforts in combating drug trafficking.
What happened
- NDLEA intercepted 1.63 million tramadol pills hidden in two trailers and arrested syndicate members.
- One trailer was stopped on July 2, 2026, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with 853,000 tramadol pills; the 22-year-old driver, Jabir Kabiru, was arrested.
- A second trailer was intercepted on July 4 on the same expressway, with 777,000 tramadol pills found and driver Muhammed Nuhu arrested.
- Three consignments seized on June 21, July 2, and July 4 were linked to the same syndicate.
- Other arrests included Chioma Nneka Mokeme on July 7 for Canadian Loud shipments, Chika Ugwoji on July 14 in Rivers State for skunk possession, and a couple in Edo State for cannabis and Canadian Loud.
