
Police arrest four suspected kidnappers and foil abduction attempts in Anambra
Four suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command following separate operations targeting violent crimes. According to spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police recovered weapons and foiled a kidnap plot in Ogbaru Local Government Area. The operations involved collaboration between the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, and detectives from the Ogbaru Divisional Police Headquarters. The suspects are believed to be linked to multiple kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in the state.

- On July 15, 2026, police arrested Okoye Ibegbunam Chukwuebuka John Bosco (alias ‘Bone’) in connection with a kidnapping in Okpanam, Asaba, Delta State.
- A locally fabricated pistol, ammunition, an axe, and an Android phone with the victim’s photograph were recovered from the suspect.
- On the evening of July 16, 2026, three more suspects—Chekwube Chukwu, Amarachukwu Nwobosi, and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor—were arrested for attempting to abduct a female POS operator in Iyiowa, Odekpe, Atani.
- The suspects were also linked to the kidnapping of another female POS operator at Dominion Park, Head Bridge, Onitsha, on June 3, 2026, where the victim was forced to pay ₦3.5 million in ransom.
- The police command emphasized its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and urged the public to provide timely information to support ongoing security efforts.
