Police arrest 13 suspects for kidnapping and cultism in Osun
Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest and planned prosecution of 13 suspects linked to kidnapping, cultism, ritual-related offences, and other crimes. Ibrahim Gotan, the Commissioner of Police, revealed these arrests during a press briefing in Osogbo. The police also rescued a kidnapped herder and recovered over N2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds. Several suspects were apprehended during raids across the state, with investigations ongoing.
What happened
- Ibrahim Gotan stated that suspects were arrested for kidnapping, cultism, ritual-related offences, stealing, hooliganism, and unlawful possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
- A 50-year-old herdsman, Haruna Yusuf, was rescued after being abducted from a settlement near Wasinmi Village.
- The police recovered N2,217,800 at the scene, believed to be ransom proceeds.
- Suspects include Buhari Mutari, arrested in Seyin, Oyo State, and three alleged cultists: Michael Oluwatobi, Busayo Joseph, and Abu Azeez.
- Eight other suspects were apprehended during raids for offences including stealing and unlawful possession of suspected Indian hemp.
