Police recover stolen vehicles and arrest two in Edo
Two suspects have been arrested by the Edo State Police Command after the recovery of two stolen vehicles in separate operations. According to spokesperson Eno Ikoedem, one of the vehicles was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation on June 22, 2026 along Siluko Road, Benin City. The suspects, including Emmanuel Afolayan and Ezikiel Aguele, have reportedly confessed to the crime. The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the officers for their professionalism and urged the public to support police efforts.
What happened
- Police intercepted a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus with forged documents at a checkpoint on June 22, 2026.
- The vehicle was originally owned by Dr. Timothy Etinosa and given to Emmanuel Afolayan on a hire-purchase agreement.
- Emmanuel Afolayan allegedly absconded with the vehicle in 2024, forged its documents, and sold it.
- Ezikiel Aguele was arrested as the driver and led police to the arrest of Emmanuel Afolayan and the recovery of another stolen vehicle.
- The suspects confessed and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
