Ogun Customs seize contraband worth billions and boost revenue
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Oladapo Afeni, has confiscated a large quantity of contraband goods and generated significant revenue. The Command reported major seizures and increased enforcement activities along border corridors. Several operations led to the interception of smuggled goods, with some handed over to the NDLEA and NAFDAC for further action. What happened
- The Command impounded contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value of ₦4.63 billion between April 1 and June 23, 2026.
- Revenue generated during this period was ₦259,777,346.89, marking a 238% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
- Major seizures included 2,807 bags of foreign rice, 9,482 parcels of cannabis sativa, 16,525 litres of petrol, and 2,427 pneumatic tyres.
- On June 3, a truck with 2,427 smuggled tyres was intercepted, and on June 16, another truck with 113 bags of foreign rice was seized after a pursuit.
- The Command processed exports totaling 20,972 metric tonnes with a Free-On-Board value of ₦1.049 billion during the review period.
