
Police recover stolen solar equipment from suspected vandals in Oyo
Four suspected vandals have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly stealing telecommunications infrastructure. The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation and found in possession of solar equipment worth about ₦8 million. According to police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects confessed to stealing the items from a telecommunications facility. Commissioner Abimbola Olugbenga praised the officers involved and emphasized the importance of community support in combating crime.
What happened
- Four suspects, Jimoh Mufutau, Saheed Akanbi, Lateef Ibrahim, and Lukman Jimoh, were arrested by police operatives on June 20, 2026 at Irepo area along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway.
- The suspects were found with four hybrid solar batteries, valued at approximately ₦8 million, in an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna.
- The equipment was allegedly stolen from a telecommunications facility in Offa, Kwara State.
- The suspects reportedly confessed to the theft during police interrogation.
- The recovered items and vehicle are now in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate.
