Yobe expands schools and boosts girls’ education
The Yobe State Government has made significant investments to improve education across the state. Governor Mai Mala Buni oversaw the construction of hundreds of classrooms and the establishment of new schools, especially for girls. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education highlighted efforts to address infrastructure gaps and improve teaching quality. These interventions aim to increase enrolment, retention, and completion rates among students.

- The government constructed 929 new classrooms and reconstructed 301 schools to enhance educational infrastructure.
- Mai Mala Buni established 10 Government Girls’ Senior Secondary Schools to support girls’ education and reduce dropout rates after junior secondary school.
- 7,230 teachers were recruited and 12,714 teaching personnel trained to improve instruction quality.
- 125 staff quarters, 275 toilet facilities, and 47 solar-powered boreholes were provided to improve teachers’ welfare and school sanitation.
- The state spends about N6bn annually on school feeding and N3bn yearly on examination fees, with 150 students benefiting each year from the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges scholarship scheme.
