Customs intercept expired drugs and large cannabis shipment
The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has stopped the illegal distribution of expired drugs and seized a significant quantity of cannabis. According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, the operations were carried out with the help of other security agencies. The intercepted pharmaceuticals and drugs were described as a major threat to public health and the economy. Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba warned those involved in smuggling and drug trafficking to stop their activities.
What happened
- The Apapa Area Command intercepted two 40-foot containers with expired pharmaceutical products meant for illegal re-labelling and distribution.
- The combined Duty Paid Value of the expired drugs seized is N12,784,479,341.72.
- Officers also seized a 40-foot container containing 3,639 sachets of Cannabis sativa, with a total weight of about 1,819 kilogrammes.
- The cannabis was hidden inside vehicles and bags within the container.
- Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba emphasized that enforcement operations will continue and warned criminals of swift consequences.
