Police arrest 30 suspected cultists in Ogun raid
Thirty suspected cultists have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command during a raid in Isara-Remo. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspects were apprehended after intelligence reports of an unlawful gathering. Items such as vehicles, a jackknife, and bottles allegedly used for alcohol consumption were recovered. Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police, praised the officers and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling cultism.
What happened
- Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that the suspects were arrested by the Violent Crime Response Unit and detectives from Isara Area Command and Division.
- The raid took place at about 4 pm on June 16 after police received credible intelligence about a cult initiation gathering.
- Four vehicles, a jackknife, a local drum, a sekere, and bottles suspected to have been used for alcohol were recovered at the scene.
- The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and will be charged in court after the investigation.
- Bode Ojajuni commended the officers involved and emphasized the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and violent crime.
