Police arrest six suspects and recover stolen items in Ogun raids
Six suspects have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command in a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal networks in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo. The police recovered firearms, ammunition, generators, and mobile phones believed to be stolen. Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq (“Okiki”), Mumuni Amodu (“Stone”), Abayomi John (“Ibafo”), and Adeboye Ojesina were named as the suspects. The operations involved the Violent Crime Response Unit, SWAT, and Ibafo Division, with investigations ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicates.
What happened
- The police arrested Moruf Sodiq (“Okiki”) on May 30, 2026, over his alleged involvement in a generator theft syndicate in Abeokuta.
- Mumuni Amodu (“Stone”) was identified as a receiver of stolen property, leading to the recovery of several generators and mobile phones.
- Abayomi John (“Ibafo”), a motorcyclist, was arrested for allegedly providing logistics support to the syndicate.
- In a separate operation, SWAT operatives arrested Adeboye Ojesina on June 12, 2026, for unlawful possession of firearms and threatening residents in Wasimi.
- On June 13, detectives intercepted Afisu Awesu during an attempted forklift engine theft in Ibafo, and later arrested Bala Aminu as the alleged receiver of stolen property.
