Police arrest man with dozens of stolen phones in Akwa Ibom
Officers of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have re-arrested Musa Idris, suspected of receiving and distributing stolen mobile phones. The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, revealed that 34 Android phones and two button phones were recovered, believed to be linked to robbery activities. Azare also discussed other police achievements, including enforcing vehicle registration rules and addressing false security information. The suspect reportedly confessed to being part of a wider criminal network involved in moving stolen phones beyond Nigeria.
What happened
- Musa Idris was arrested along the Calabar–Itu Road axis after credible intelligence linked him to stolen phones.
- Investigations showed Idris had previously been arrested in October 2025 for armed robbery and possession of over 200 suspected stolen phones.
- The recovered phones are believed to be proceeds of armed robbery operations within and outside Akwa Ibom State.
- Azare said the suspect’s confession points to a larger network moving stolen phones beyond Nigeria’s borders.
- The police also concluded investigations into Akaninyene Udo (“AK Philo”) for allegedly circulating a threatening message and charged him to court.
