Court directs government to register new university workers’ union
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has instructed the Federal Government and the Registrar of Trade Unions to register the National Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities (NANTS) as a trade union. The judgement was delivered by Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae in Abuja. The court found that the refusal to register NANTS was wrongful and issued a mandatory order for its registration. Members of the new union reportedly broke away from the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities.
