Cocaine found hidden in shirts and towels at Lagos airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested Abugu Ikechukwu at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport for allegedly importing shirts and towels soaked with liquid cocaine from Brazil. The NDLEA discovered 6.10 kilograms of the drug after a thorough search of his luggage. The suspect reportedly told investigators he had lived in Brazil for over 14 years, running an African restaurant. Two other suspects, Chidimma Sunday and Abubakar Usman, were also arrested in separate drug-related incidents.
What happened
- Abugu Ikechukwu was arrested at the Lagos airport after arriving from São Paulo, Brazil, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on June 11, 2026.
- NDLEA officials found 14 towels and shirts soaked in liquid cocaine, dried and ironed, in his luggage.
- The suspect claimed he was visiting Nigeria to see his wife and buy foodstuffs for his restaurant in Brazil.
- In other operations, Chidimma Sunday was apprehended with 1.8kg of skunk in Abia State and handed over to NDLEA operatives on June 10.
- NDLEA also made major drug seizures across several states, including large quantities of skunk and cannabis.
