Police arrest two suspected bandits and recover weapons in Kwara
Three suspected members of a criminal network have been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command. The arrests were made during an operation in Baruten Local Government Area, where two AK-47 rifles and other items were recovered. Bello Mohammed and Abubakar Mohammed were apprehended at a hideout, while Umoru Saliu was later arrested for allegedly facilitating the group. The police say efforts are ongoing to capture other fleeing suspects.
What happened
- The Kwara State Police Command arrested Bello Mohammed (28) and Abubakar Mohammed (25) at a suspected criminal hideout in Okuta, Baruten LGA.
- Two AK-47 rifles, 65 rounds of live ammunition, cutlasses, tube tyres, charms, and other items were recovered from the hideout.
- Abubakar Mohammed confessed to being involved in the group’s activities and revealed he lost three fingers during a previous encounter with security operatives.
- Further investigation led to the arrest of Umoru Saliu (58) on 7th June 2026 for allegedly providing support and accommodation to the criminal network.
- Commissioner Ojo Adekimi described the operation as a breakthrough and said all suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
