NDLEA seizes large drug stash and arrests elderly suspect
A major drug bust by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has led to the interception of a truck carrying hundreds of thousands of tramadol pills hidden under building materials in Taraba State. The agency also arrested a 75-year-old man in Ebonyi and several other suspects, including women, in operations across multiple states. The NDLEA highlighted that age and gender do not exempt anyone from law enforcement. The agency’s anti-drug campaign continues in schools and communities nationwide.
What happened
- NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck in Taraba State, uncovering 320,840 tramadol capsules, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 pills of rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
- A 75-year-old man, Okebe Samuel, was arrested in Ebonyi State with 300 grams of skunk, which he allegedly sold to local youths.
- In Imo State, Chioma Okeke was arrested with 8 kilograms of skunk, while in Edo State, four traffickers, including three women, were apprehended during raids in Benin City on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
- In Kano State, Saifullahi Lawan was arrested on Thursday, 4 June 2026, with 40 blocks of skunk weighing 38 kilograms, and in Gombe State, Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi was caught with 15,000 tramadol capsules.
- The NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign continues in schools across Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, and Kano states.
