Police detain five over abduction of Ondo schoolchildren
Two schoolchildren were abducted in Ore, Ondo State, and five suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. The Ondo State Police Command, led by spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh, detailed the operation that led to the arrests. The children, Jehu and Yohana, were reportedly kidnapped on their way to school, and a ransom was allegedly paid before their release. Felix Ohagwu, the state Commissioner of Police, commended the anti-kidnapping squad for their efforts.
What happened
- Jehu, 10, and Yohana, 5, were abducted in the Jerry Sawmill area of Ore on May 12, 2026.
- Their father, Andrew Yohana, reported the incident to the police at about 9:00 a.m.
- Five suspects—Taofeek Lukman, Blessing Saturday, Peter Moses, Sunday Isaac, and Sanusi Dan Asabe—were arrested after an intelligence-led operation.
- Police recovered N251,000, suspected to be part of the ransom paid for the children's release.
- The suspects have confessed to their roles and will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
