NDLEA finds nearly 500kg of cannabis hidden in Edo shrine
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have discovered a large stash of cannabis hidden inside a shrine in Edo State. The state commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed that the drugs were abandoned by a notorious drug baron known as Asrenre, who is currently on the run. The operation, based on credible intelligence, also led to the arrest of two other suspects with various drugs in their possession. The NDLEA has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and is investigating the criminal network involved.
What happened
- NDLEA operatives uncovered 498 kilograms of skunk cannabis concealed inside a shrine in Igwe Community, Owan East Local Government Area.
- The drugs were allegedly abandoned by a suspected drug baron, Asrenre, who remains at large.
- Some community youths initially resisted the search, claiming the shrine was sacred, but officers proceeded and found the drugs.
- Two suspects, Sunday Oghaimen and Esther Igbafe, were arrested in related operations with cannabis, tramadol, and Swinol in their possession.
