Chinese woman arrested at Lagos airport for drug smuggling
A 63-year-old Chinese woman, Ting Hung Kiong, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large quantity of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis, into Nigeria. The arrest took place at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after she arrived from Thailand via Dubai. The NDLEA also intercepted several other major drug shipments and made multiple arrests in different states. Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), the NDLEA Chairman, praised the officers for their efforts in curbing drug trafficking.
What happened
- Ting Hung Kiong was arrested on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Lagos airport with 31.0 kilograms of Canadian Loud in two large travel boxes.
- Another drug shipment containing 1,825,710 tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, valued at N2,190,852,000, was handed over to the NDLEA by Customs on Friday 22nd May 2026.
- At Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, Onyeka Valentine Emeka was arrested on May 20 after excreting 185.36 grams of cocaine.
- At Abuja airport, Babatunde Prosper Afekhide was arrested on Wednesday 21st May with 10,280 pills of various opioids hidden in his luggage.
- Other seizures and arrests occurred in Edo, Kano, Ekiti, and Lagos states between May 19 and May 23, including large quantities of skunk and pills, with suspects such as Isah Sani and Ogundana Adebayo Julius apprehended.
