Army frees 92 hostages and clears explosives in Borno
In a major operation, troops from Operation HADIN KAI rescued 92 civilians who were abducted by Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists in Borno State. The military also recovered eight vehicles and neutralised three improvised explosive devices planted by the insurgents. According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operation involved a coordinated response from multiple army units. The rescued civilians were given immediate support and safely escorted to continue their journey.
What happened
- Troops detected insurgents forcing civilians and vehicles off the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area.
- The 135 Special Forces Battalion and 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison responded, leading to the rescue of 52 males, 33 females, and 7 children.
- Eight vehicles were recovered, and three IEDs planted by the insurgents were safely detonated by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
- The military reported zero casualties among personnel and equipment during the operation.
