
Police arrest two suspected kidnappers in Enugu
Two suspected members of a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command. The suspects, Mohammed Hassan and Aminu Usman, were apprehended with weapons and stolen items. Police say the group has been targeting border communities between Enugu and Benue states. The authorities are continuing efforts to capture other fleeing members of the syndicate.
What happened
- Mohammed Hassan (28) and Aminu Usman (26), both from Otukpa, Benue State, were arrested on May 14, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m. in Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor, Enugu State.
- Items recovered included a Beretta pistol with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, three suspected stolen motorcycles, a mobile phone, charms, an ATM card, keys, and N4,700 cash.
- Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe said preliminary investigations link the suspects to interstate kidnapping and motorcycle-snatching operations.
- The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, praised the operatives and Neighbourhood Watch Group for their efforts.
