FRSC targets fake diplomatic plates and overloading in new patrol
The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched a new operation to tackle the use of fake diplomatic and ambassadorial number plates on Nigerian roads. Shehu Mohammed, the Corps Marshal, announced the initiative during an event in Awka, highlighting concerns over rising insecurity linked to these fake plates. The operation, code-named ‘Operation Guduma’, also aims to address the issue of vehicle overloading. The FRSC is working with state governments and has started sensitising drivers about the dangers of these practices.

- The FRSC launched ‘Operation Guduma’ to ensure those using fake or illegal government number plates are prosecuted.
- The operation in Anambra and Enugu states will run from May 18 until May 22.
- The FRSC is also running campaigns at motor parks to educate motorists about the dangers of overloading.
- After the sensitisation campaign, enforcement will begin, and drivers found violating the rules will be sanctioned.
