Police arrest seven after raids on Delta cult hideouts
Police in Delta State, led by SP Bright Edafe, have arrested seven suspects in separate operations targeting criminal activities. The raids resulted in the recovery of firearms and live cartridges. What happened
- Police raided a suspected criminal hideout at Eku-Igun community in Ethiope West Local Government Area on May 11, 2026, at about 2:30 am.
- Six suspects linked to an unlawful society were arrested, and weapons including a locally made single-barrel gun, a double-barrel pistol, and two live cartridges were recovered.
- In a separate operation, a 32-year-old suspect, Mokwunye Prince Jerry, was intercepted at the Head Bridge checkpoint on May 13, 2026, at about 3:40 pm, with six packets of live cartridges.
- The suspect claimed to be part of a hunters’ or vigilante group and said he was instructed by someone named Anthony, who is currently at large, to collect the ammunition.
- CP Yemi Oyeniyi commended the police operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police with credible information.
