NJC suspends two judges and recommends 12 for elevation
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended two judges for one year without pay due to judicial misconduct. The council also recommended the appointment of 12 new justices to the Court of Appeal. These decisions were made during the council’s 111th meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The NJC also addressed several petitions, extended an acting chief judge’s appointment, and commended some judges for exemplary service.

- The NJC recommended Yakubu Mohammed, Monisola Abodunde, Raphael Ajuwa, Elias Abua, Mbalamen Ijohor, Sabiu Shuaibu, James Omotosho, Emeka Nwite, Dauda Buba, Sanusi Kado, Enikuomehin Ademola, and Julcit Dadom as new Justices of the Court of Appeal.
- Justice Ibrahim Shekarau and Justice Edward A. E. Okpe were suspended for one year without pay for judicial misconduct.
- The NJC extended Ijeoma Agugua’s appointment as acting Chief Judge of Imo State for another three months.
- The council reinstated T. I. Nze after he presented new evidence, but rejected appeals from eight Imo judges retired over age falsification.
- The NJC dismissed 73 petitions against judicial officers and commended nine judges for exemplary performance during the 2024 and 2025 legal years.
