NDLEA seizes cannabis worth over ₦10bn at Lagos port
A major drug bust has taken place at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos, where the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a large consignment of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis. The shipment, weighing over 4,000 kilogrammes, was tracked from Toronto, Canada, and concealed inside two vehicles within a shipping container. The operation involved close collaboration between NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service, and several international partners. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd.) praised the teamwork and warned drug syndicates against targeting Nigerian ports.
What happened
- The NDLEA intercepted 4,173.5 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, valued at ₦10,433,750,000, at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos.
- The container originated from Toronto, Canada, on March 28, and was transloaded multiple times before reaching Lagos.
- It arrived at the Lagos port on Saturday, May 9, 2026, and was seized during a joint examination on Tuesday, May 12.
- The drugs were hidden inside a used Ford bus and a Mercedes-Benz C300 car within the shipping container.
- The operation was carried out with support from the United Kingdom Home Office International Operations, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
