FG launches advocacy tour for new Cooperative Bank in South-West
The Federal Government has started a South-West zonal engagement and advocacy tour to promote the Cooperative Bank of Nigeria. The initiative is led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, with support from the Federal Department of Cooperatives. Dr Aliyu Abdullahi highlighted the tour as part of the administration’s efforts to reposition the cooperative sector for economic growth and inclusion. Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem also expressed Lagos State’s commitment to supporting cooperative reforms.

- The advocacy tour was launched by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to mobilise share capital and promote digitalisation in the cooperative sector.
- Dr Aliyu Abdullahi stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
- The modern cooperative movement in Nigeria began in the South-West after the 1934 Strickland Report and the Cooperative Societies Ordinance of 1935.
- The tour is a result of resolutions from the 8th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Cooperative Affairs held in Abuja in March 2026.
- Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem said Lagos State supports the Renewed Hope Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme (2025–2030) and will continue to collaborate on its implementation.
