
Truck driver arrested after fatal Badagry Expressway crash
A truck driver has been arrested after a deadly crash on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, which resulted in the deaths of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident and detailed the sequence of events leading to the fatalities. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, provided information on the crash and subsequent actions by authorities. The driver has been handed over to security operatives for further investigation.
What happened
- LASTMA reported that a heavily loaded bucket truck knocked down a pedestrian and continued driving without stopping.
- A motorcyclist, accompanied by a sympathiser, pursued the truck in an attempt to stop the driver, but the truck rammed into the motorcycle, killing the rider.
- The sympathiser on the motorcycle escaped unhurt.
- LASTMA operatives responded quickly, evacuating the deceased motorcyclist and handing the truck driver over to security officials at the PPL Police Post, Okokomaiko.
- Both the truck and the damaged motorcycle were moved to the police post pending investigation, and the families of the deceased have been notified.
