Cross River governor mourns UNICROSS students and staff killed in accident
Governor Bassey Otu has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of students and a staff member from the University of Cross River State in a tragic road accident. The incident occurred along the Calabar–Itu Highway and has left the university and the entire state in mourning. Bassey Otu described the victims as promising individuals whose lives and futures were abruptly cut short. He extended his condolences to the families and university community, offering prayers for the deceased and the injured.
What happened
- Bassey Otu called the accident devastating and said it has brought immense sorrow to Cross River State.
- The victims included students and a staff member of the University of Cross River State, who died in a crash involving a coaster bus and a container truck.
- The university confirmed that 24 students, mostly Students’ Union Government executives, were involved in the accident.
- Among the deceased were the SUG Director of Sports, Solomon Uya; Lucky Erim, a Chemistry student and faculty president; Favour Darlington of Educational Management; and staff member Mr. Anthony Arikpo.
- Survivors are receiving treatment, while police continue to investigate and search for the truck driver who fled the scene.
