NEMA receives 181 Nigerians evacuated from Libya
Three children, 10 infants, and 159 adults have been evacuated from Tripoli, Libya, by the National Emergency Management Agency under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme. The operation was facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government. NEMA said the returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and were provided with humanitarian support. Less than a month earlier, another group of returnees from Benghazi, Libya, was also received under the same programme.
What happened
- NEMA received 181 Nigerian returnees from Tripoli, Libya, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration and the Federal Government.
- The returnees arrived on April 27, 2026, at about 20:13 hours at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
- The group included 159 adults (64 males, 95 females), 12 children (five males, seven females), and 10 infants (six males, four females).
- Upon arrival, the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation for the returnees.
- Less than a month earlier, NEMA and the IOM received 145 Nigerian returnees evacuated from Benghazi, Libya, comprising 122 adults, 29 children, and 27 infants.
