Police arrest five suspected kidnappers in Kwara forest

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers in a forest in the state. According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Team with support from local vigilantes and forest guards. The suspects are linked to recent attacks and abductions in parts of Kwara. Authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to dismantle kidnapping networks.
What happened
- Five suspected kidnappers were arrested in a coordinated security operation at Oke-Iya Community.
- The operation was conducted on April 23, 2026, following credible intelligence about criminal activities.
- Three suspects — Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar — were linked to the invasion of Idiya community, where five residents were abducted.
- Two more suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, were later arrested as investigations continued.
- Items recovered include a locally fabricated revolver rifle modified to fire AK-47 ammunition and eight rounds of live ammunition.
