Army detains five over police officer’s death in Delta State
Five suspects have been arrested by troops of Sector 2, Operation UDO KA, in Ebonyi State for their alleged involvement in the killing of a police officer in Delta State. The operation, led by the Nigerian Army, targeted a criminal network linked to attacks on security personnel. According to Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni, the group had relocated to Ebonyi State after intensified security operations in Delta. The Army has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling such criminal networks and urges public cooperation.
What happened
- Troops arrested a notorious IPOB/ESN kingpin known as ‘Calamity’ and four others during a raid in Nwofe, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
- The suspects are accused of involvement in an attack on police officers at Okuku-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State on February 26, 2026, where a police officer was killed and another injured.
- Items recovered during the arrest included a black handbag with five mobile phones, several keys, and a black motorcycle believed to have been used by the group.
- The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.
- The Army called on the public to support ongoing security operations by providing credible information.
