Police arrest suspects and recover stolen vehicles in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects for alleged involvement in car theft and receiving stolen vehicles, recovering two cars in separate operations in Minna and Bida. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests followed credible intelligence and coordinated surveillance. Additional suspects were apprehended for offences including vandalism, theft of electricity infrastructure, and possession of vandalised armoured cables. The state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, praised the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting crime.
What happened
- Abdulfatai Abdulganiyu and Nura Umar were arrested in connection with stolen vehicles, including a Honda CR-V and a Toyota Corolla.
- Abdulfatai Abdulganiyu was found at a hotel in Minna with a Honda CR-V reportedly stolen from Kano, while Nura Umar was arrested in Bida with a Toyota Corolla allegedly bought for ₦1.1 million.
- In a separate operation, Yazidu Dalhatu was arrested for vandalising and stealing transformer oil, with two alleged receivers, Mohammed Lawal and Umar Liman, under investigation.
- Police also intercepted three suspects—Ibrahim Aminu, Isah Jafar, and Yusuf Aminu—with vandalised armoured cables suspected to belong to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
- Recovered items included hand saws, a hammer, a chisel, and burnt armoured cables, and all suspects are currently in custody pending court charges.
