NDLEA uncovers drugs hidden in food flasks at Lagos airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted consignments of cocaine and cannabis concealed in food flasks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. The agency discovered 12 large parcels of cocaine weighing 2.80 kilograms and arrested several suspects linked to the operation. Further investigations led to more arrests and drug seizures in other states. Mohamed Buba Marwa, NDLEA Chairman, commended the operatives for their efforts in combating drug trafficking.
What happened
- NDLEA operatives seized 12 parcels of cocaine hidden in food flasks bound for the United Kingdom from the Lagos airport’s export shed on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
- Two cargo agents, Ama Obinna Ufeim and Ogabi Monday Akorede, were arrested, and a freight forwarder, Agoro Moninuola, was identified as the sender and later apprehended.
- At the airport’s import shed, 2.90 kilograms of “Loud” cannabis from the United States was intercepted, leading to the arrest of Animashaun Moshood Adetunji, Mercy Gabriel Oluwasegun, and the consignee, Saheed Adeshina Adegoke, on Monday, April 13.
- In Kaduna, Cross River, Edo, and Delta states, NDLEA operatives arrested multiple suspects and destroyed large quantities of cannabis during various raids, including the seizure of 15,000 kilograms of skunk in Cross River on April 16.
- Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the agency’s operatives and encouraged continued efforts in the fight against drug trafficking.
